Supplements, Vitimins, Herbs Oh My!

So, in the middle of all the research that my poor little Alzheimer's plagued mind can handle and am starting to work on the supplement, vitamin aspect of it. Here is what I am learning...

Well, essentially, not all supplements are created equal. Much like human beings I suppose.

There seems to be an endless stream of information about what to take, when to take and how much to take of any one or combination of supplements and vitamins for improved brain function as well as anti-inflammatory aids (of which I am convinced has a great deal to do with what is going on with me health-wise. Not just brain function but other things too) However, there appears to be precious little information about how the myriad of companies who manufacture these things go about manufacturing their product and what exactly goes into each pill/capsule/tablet.

Unless of course, you are willing to pay for it (yeah I am talking to you Consumer Laboratories)

One tiny little report I managed to run across after diving deep into my search mentioned that one brand of supplement (Curcumin and Bioperine) tested resulted in a 7% delivery of the supplement when the label clearly stated 14%.

Another report mentioned that insect larva casings were found in another brand! WTF??

I mean come on can someone figure this out for me? Cause I am apparently too mentally impaired to understand that what is on the label is not required to be IN said supplement.

Anyway, after my exhaustive research I am adding the following to my daily regimen:

B-complex
Krill oil
Probiotic
Curcumin/Bioperine

I am also adopting a "Grain Brain" eating style modified a bit to also aid my blood glucose numbers.

I currently ingest 2-3 Tbls of coconut oil and hope to get my dosage up to 8-9 in the future.

I have never been one to take vitamins or supplements, so this is rather foreign to me. I am finding that many of the things that might aid my brain health should be taken in supplement form due to the fact that using food would be difficult. For instance, the amount of Curcumin (tumeric) that I need to take is nearly impossible to ingest in food form.

Another example is the fact that I don't like  HATE fish... so krill oil is needed for the Omegas.

This is by no means the end of my research, just the beginning and I fully expect that things will change, additions will be made, and subtractions.

Happy supplementing!
